The word "empanada" comes from the Spanish word "empanar", which means "to (coat with) bread". Every town and city in the country have their own version. Typically filled with ground beef, potato, pimento, and spices, then baked or fried. Gauchos (Argentine cowboys) often carry these as a staple as they are easy to eat and packed with nutrition.
